13th Amendment: 1865, abolished slavery in the United States.
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. The 13th Amendment declared that slavery anywhere in the United States was against the Constitution. As part of Reconstruction, the states that had seceded from the Union had to ratify this amendment, forever ending the practice of legal slavery in the United States.
26th Amendment: 1971, Protects suffrage for legal U.S citizens aged 18 years and over. the congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. In 1964, the states ratified the 24th amendment, stopping states from charging people to vote in federal elections. This article allowed more citizens to vote in tough economic situations.
